Troy University Athletics
Troy has an extensive athletic program, with men’s teams in baseball, basketball, football, golf, tennis, cross country, track & field, and rodeo, and women’s teams in basketball, volleyball, soccer, tennis, cross country, softball, track & field, and rodeo. Troy is part of the NCAA Division I. The team nickname is the “Trojans”. There are other programs associated with athletics, including band and cheerleading, and Trojan football games are broadcast on 15 radio stations throughout Alabama.
The Trojans compete in the Sun Belt Conference of the NCAA Division I-A. Men’s sports include baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, track, and tennis. Women’s sports include basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, track, tennis, and volleyball. The football team’s first year in Division I-A (2001) saw a winning record of 7-4, the most exciting episode being the homecoming defeat of Mississippi State. The golf team has been ranked tenth in the nation. Regular season Conference Championships have been captured in men’s basketball during four of the last five seasons. Troy State has captured eleven different NCAA Championships in four different sports. Athletic facilities include Tine Davis Field House, Pace-Riddle baseball stadium, Trojan Oaks golf course, as well as new softball and soccer facilities.
